This is my latest update to provide you with information about the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on our community.
The Federal Parliament has now passed legislation for the JobKeeper wage subsidy to support millions of Australians and help many in our community to stay in work.
For information about how to register for the JobKeeper payment or other COVID-19 issues please visit www.australia.gov.au.
Money for the JobKeeper payment should start to flow to employers at the beginning of May with the funds paid directly to those affected businesses and then passed on to workers.
Labor has co-operated with the government to support this legislation. However, I’m disappointed the government didn’t accept our suggestions to protect casual workers, visa holders and other vulnerable workers.
Our priority is to protect jobs, help workers, businesses, families and communities through this difficult time, and ensure vulnerable Australians are supported.
