Coronavirus (COVID-19) update No.3

Thursday 26 March, 2020

This is an update to provide you with the latest information from the Government regarding Coronavirus.

The Government’s www.australia.gov.au/ website now has the latest Coronavirus news, updates and advice from Federal agencies.

This site includes updated details about health and preventative measures, financial and community support, information for businesses and employees, and advice for travellers.

A reminder that my staff and I are here to help you with these or any other enquiries. Please call my office on 9349 6007, email matt.thistlethwaite.mp@aph.gov.au or reach me via FacebookInstagram or Twitter.

The Prime Minister last night announced the next round of social distancing measures for our nation, including advice not to gather in groups outside.

The advice is to stay at home unless it’s absolutely necessary to go out for the basics, exercise and other essentials.

Visits to homes should be kept to a minimum with a “very small number” of guests – no birthday parties, dinner parties or large BBQ gatherings.

Schools will remain open as will shopping centres but food courts will only be allowed to provide takeaway.

Hairdressers will remain open but are encouraged to keep appointments to 30 minutes or less.

Other new measures starting from midnight tonight include the closure of the following:

  • Auction houses
  • Open house property inspections
  • Outdoor and indoor markets (except fresh food)
  • Beauty therapists – tanning, waxing
  • Spa and massage centres
  • Amusement parks and play centres
  • Community, recreation and fitness centres
  • PCYCs and swimming pools
  • Libraries
  • Social sporting activities
  • Museums and galleries
  • National institutions

Weddings can continue but with no more than five people in attendance. Funerals will be limited to no more than 10 people.

This is an unprecedented health crisis for our community and our nation. It’s something that affects all of us, but we will get through it by working together.

I will continue to provide you with updated information as it becomes available.

If you know anybody who would like to receive these updates please ask them to email matt.thistlethwaite.mp@aph.gov.au with their details and they will be included in the mailing list.
