$3.5 million for Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club redevelopment

Saturday 12 April, 2025

A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver $3.5 million towards the complete redevelopment of the Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.

This election commitment will support the demolition of the existing 1930s clubhouse and construction of a modern facility with improved amenities and upgraded facilities for the club’s growing female membership.

This announcement is complemented by funding commitments from Randwick City Council and the New South Wales Government.

The redevelopment is designed to meet the needs of the club’s members who provide volunteer lifesaving services at one of Sydney’s most challenging beaches.

The Albanese Labor Government continues to back community infrastructure that supports water safety and volunteer lifesaving services across Australia’s coastlines, recognising their essential role in preventing drownings and building community resilience.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Kingsford Smith, Matt Thistlethwaite MP:

“Maroubra Surf Life Saving Club was built in the 1930s and its facilities are old and outdated.

“This $3.5 million election commitment ensures this vital redevelopment can proceed, delivering modern, equitable facilities for training and storage of equipment so that our volunteers get the facilities they deserve and we have the best surf lifesaving service possible at Maroubra. “Water safety is fundamental to our Australian way of life, and only a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver the infrastructure investments our volunteer lifesavers deserve as they perform vital work protecting lives on our beaches.”
